How do I restore a backup or roll back my server?

Rolling your server back to an earlier state is straightforward — you restore a backup yourself from your server's Backups page in the client area. This guide walks through it, and how to restore a copy you saved yourself.

How restoring works

Every server is backed up automatically twice a day (00:00 and 12:00 UTC by default — you can pick your own two Backup times), and Back up now makes a manual backup (the newest 3 are kept). On the Backups page you can browse a backup, restore it (into a new folder, over the current files, or the whole server) and download it.

Free restores: Supreme covers backups from the last 3 days, Ultimate the last 7 days, and Budget none unless you chose a Backups option — or longer if you chose a longer Backups option when ordering (e.g. 7 or 14 days), which you can change later with Change plan. Older backups cost $3 each to restore, which unlocks that backup for 7 days. Manual backups and browsing are always free.

Restoring from the Backups page

1. Open your server → Backups.
2. Pick a backup from before the problem (browse it first if you want to check its files).
3. Choose restore — into a new folder, over the current files, or the whole server.
4. Start the server from the Console and check everything loads.

Restoring a copy you saved yourself

1. Stop the server in the Console.
2. In the Files tab, delete (or rename) the current world folder.
3. Upload your saved backup — extract the .zip first, then drag the folders in via the Files manager or SFTP for large worlds.
4. Make sure level.dat sits directly inside the world folder, then Start the server.

Warning: Restoring over the current files overwrites them. If you might want the present state, make a manual backup (Back up now) or download it first — or restore into a new folder instead.

Frequently asked questions

I renamed the world instead of deleting it. Is that fine? Yes — renaming keeps the current state as a fallback while you test the restored one. Delete it later once you're happy.

The server won't load my restored world. Confirm level.dat is at the root of the world folder and that your software/version matches the backup. Then restart.

I have no backup at all. Check your server's Backups page first — every server is backed up automatically twice a day. If you can't find what you need there, message the team quickly with your server ID.
