How do I restore or roll back my server to an earlier state?

Short answer

Restoring or rolling back means putting an earlier copy of your files back in place of the current ones. The one-click Backups tab is temporarily unavailable while we upgrade to a faster, deduplicated system, so this currently relies on a copy you (or we) saved before the problem appeared. Stop the server, upload that copy via Files or SFTP, swap the files in, then start back up and verify.

Can you roll back or reload my server to a previous state?

A rollback is really just putting your earlier files back in place, so it depends on having a copy from before the problem appeared.

Our one-click Backups tab is temporarily unavailable while we upgrade to a faster, deduplicated system, so rollbacks currently rely on copies you (or we) made earlier. If you have a downloaded snapshot from before things went wrong, you can upload it and overwrite the current state.

How do I restore from a copy I have?

Stop the server, upload your saved archive or files via Files or SFTP, replace the current files with your copy, then start the server and verify.

Unarchive the copy first if it needs it, replace the affected files or world, and confirm the world name matches your config before you start. Replacing files overwrites your current data, so copy the present state first in case you still need something from it.

What if I have no copy from before the problem?

Open a ticket and we will see what is available. Options depend on what copies exist.

Does restoring keep my map?

Yes. It puts the world back exactly as it was in that copy, including your map.

Uploading replaces the specific files and folders you upload; it does not automatically merge history. Take care when overwriting so you do not lose anything you still need from the current state.

How do I make sure I always have a restore point?

Download your files periodically via Files or SFTP so a rollback copy always exists while the new backup system is being finished.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a one-click rollback or restore button? Not at the moment. The Backups tab is temporarily unavailable while we upgrade to a faster, deduplicated system, so restores use a manual copy.

I have no copy from before the issue — is there anything you can do? Open a ticket and we will see what is available. Options depend on what copies exist, and we will help where we can.

Does uploading merge or replace my files? It replaces the specific files and folders you upload; it does not automatically merge history.

Do I need to stop the server before restoring files? Yes. Stop the server, replace the files, then start it again and verify.

Will I lose my current world if I restore? Replacing files overwrites your current data, so make a copy of the present state before you upload the older one.
